Flashes of Sanity #59: Relieve me

Welcome to Flashes of Sanity! Your weekly (during July it is daily!) dose of flash fiction on 500 words or less.

Today’s entry: Relieve me

Please, he thought. Let these words cleanse a dark heart. Let these words be my sanctuary.

The keyboard squealed with every punch as his skinny fingers moved quickly over the keys. Each key was nothing more worn down plastic on a machine.

Let my thoughts be pure. I don’t want dreams if darkness. Not any more.

Yet the paper moving in front of him foretold death, disaster and pain.

Why can’t I have happiness? Why can’t I be normal?

He tore the paper away. His bleeding fingers smeared the red across the white and black. Blood from a blackened heart over letters from a shadowed mind.

I don’t want to anymore, he thought.

Then his fingers began typing.

Let the darkness out. He sighed. Let this fingers mediate what cannot be said.

He glanced at the words forming. A war was building. A hell was rioting. Death was the easy way out.

So many wanted more.

He cried.

A new paper was torn away. Another got its first letter. And blood dripped between the words.

Please let it stop.

But no one listen to his pleads.
